Statement from Police Chief Morrison regarding Kathy Scharbarth
Good afternoon, and thank you for being here. I am Gary Morrison the Chief of Police for the City of Carlsbad. I want to share with you an important development regarding the missing person’s case involving Kathy Scharbarth.
Carlsbad Detectives located a body that closely matches the description of Kathy Scharbarth late last night in a remote location in San Diego County. We are awaiting positive identification from the San Diego County Medical Examiner. We have notified the Scharbarth family of the latest developments. This is obviously a difficult time for Kathy’s family and friends and our thoughts go out to them. From the first notification of the missing person call Thursday morning, members of the
Carlsbad Police Department worked around the clock on a very solid investigation that has resulted in the arrest of suspect Michael David Robles of Fallbrook.
The Carlsbad Police Department would like to thank:
Sheriff Bill Gore and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, specifically Lieutenant Todd Richardson and his group; Chief William Landsdowne and detectives from the San Diego Police Department; District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and San Diego County District Attorney’s Office; the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and Attorney General Kamala Harris; and the special agents from the State of California Department of Justice Division.
Although this was not the outcome we had hoped for, I am very proud of the professionalism and hard work of the men and women of the Carlsbad Police Department. In particular, I would like recognize Lieutenant Matt Magro and Detectives Bryan Hargett, Jim Willis and Steve Seapker.
The Scharbarth family asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The investigation is on-going, and I am sure you understand that right now our goal is justice for Kathy and the Scharbarth family, so I hope you will understand that we are not going to release any additional details at this time.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
