Get rid of household hazardous waste at free city event

Carlsbad residents can get rid of old paint, pesticides, cleaners and other household hazardous waste for free at the city’s fifth annual household hazardous waste collection event, Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

To participate, residents must make an appointment beginning April 9, via the city’s website or appointment line, 760-602-7559. Proof of Carlsbad residency is required. The event will be held at the city’s fleet yard, located at the corner of Impala Drive and Orion Way. 

 

At the collection site, residents may dispose of one carload of waste per scheduled appointment (up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds). Residents are asked to make an additional appointment if they have more than one carload of waste, so they comply with laws governing how much household hazardous waste may be transported in one car. 

 

Hazardous items should be transported with caution by placing items in sealed and/or sturdy containers to ensure they do not spill.

 

In addition to the annual household hazardous waste event, residents may drop off hazardous materials year round at two free drop-off centers:
